In the current crypto bear market, it's crucial to discern which cryptocurrencies have genuine value and which are merely speculative. Despite Bitcoin's (BTC) current price being half of its October 2025 peak, I remain confident in its long-term prospects due to its fixed supply and halving events. Bitcoin's fundamentals remain strong, and its scarcity ensures that its price will eventually rebound. However, the volatility and distribution of its new holders could impact its future returns. Personally, I think Bitcoin's scarcity and halving events make it a safe haven in the crypto market, and I plan to continue accumulating it. On the other hand, Hyperliquid (HYPE) offers a unique value proposition. As a decentralized trading platform, it routes 99% of its trading fees into buying back its token, Hype. This mechanism has consumed over $2 billion in value since its launch in January 2025, and $176.2 million in Q1 of 2026 alone. What makes this particularly fascinating is that Hyperliquid is expanding into new markets, including prediction markets and tokenized versions of stocks, commodities, and international currencies. However, there are some concerns. A large portion of Hype's supply is yet to circulate, and Hyperliquid's competition is growing. If its buyback policy is weakened, I'll consider selling it. In my opinion, Bitcoin's scarcity and Hyperliquid's value capture mechanism make them the only cryptocurrencies I'm comfortable buying right now, but that could change depending on market conditions and regulatory developments.
